Noir! is an expanding concept that started as an exhibition and party at Edinburgh's sharpest new venue, Hawke & Hunter. The success of the first night prompted organisers to stage a second chapter at the same venue inviting a group of artists to exhibit.

Hawke & Hunter’s new venue, The Green Room, launched in August 2009, was an ideal setting for number three and four; grand fashion shows and exhibitions showcasing some of Edinburgh’s top models, designers, artists and boutiques. Most recently Noir! staged ‘Comrade Couture’, an exclusive event for the Glasgow Film Festival. The evening presented award winning Berlin documentary, “Comrade Couture’ and followed it with a fashion show showcasing designs by Iona Crawford.

Noir! was founded by Anna Freemantle, a Dutch model and her husband, Jonathan - a South African painter. Together they had the intention of throwing a party they themselves wanted to be at. Noir! is also launching in NYC this year under the stewardship of Ezra Mabengeza, a South African actor currently based there.

Seeking out the most creative and exciting things going on in Scotland and beyond, Noir! loosely bases itself on Andy Warhol’s Factory, particularly in the sense that projects are often shown as works in progress. “I want it to be like having a party in an artist’s studio, like being in the cutting room with a filmmaker, where all the excitement of the creative process is still fresh,” says Freemantle.
